Where is Maroochydore?
Maroochydore, Queensland is located about 100 kilometers from Brisbane the capital of Queensland. With a population of over 47,000 residents there is something for everyone in Maroochydore which makes it a wonderful and quaint place to visit.
Activities in Maroochydore
It is admired for its multi-cultural cuisine, and aqua related activities on the Maroochy River. There is also opportunity for great shopping at the largest shopping center in the region known as the Sunshine Plaza that has over 220 stores including a movie theater, and two department stores.
There are many activities and attractions to see in Maroochydore. The Maroochy botanic gardens are a beautiful site to see serving as habitat to mammals and reptiles. The gardens have a lagoon, bushland and even rainforest; definitely a one of a kind place.
Another great attraction is the Maroochydore Rotary Park is known for its picnic tables with electric barbeques so it is quite the family destination. With two parks with lots of equipment for the kids to play on as well as sand for them to dig in if they want to. In Rotary Park there is a jetty for fishing with river access as well. There is really something for everyone in the family to love.
Pierce Park is also a lovely park with different activities for the kids such as wall climbing, and a large snakes and ladders game. You can take a trip in a seaplane with Paradise Seaplanes and see the Maroochy River with its many functions as well as the beautiful, clear beaches of Maroochydore.
Maroochydore has become the perfect holiday getaway for many. The weather is mild there is seven hours of sunshine and they don’t call it the sunshine coast for no reason. It is just that beautiful and sunny most days the majority of rainfall for the year occurs in the first few months of the year.
Maroochydore is also a host to the Australia Surf Life Saving competition also known as “The Aussies”. The competition lasts two weeks and has three different categories for competition; youth, masters, and open. The event brings in many viewers in that stay at the resorts in Maroochydore

Maroochydore has a cornucopia of fine dining restaurants that can be enjoyed. Ebb waterfront dining and cellar is a fine dining restaurant that offers first class food with many different wine options to choose from to enjoy with your meal. There is also a well know Thai restaurant known as Som Tham Thai that serves spicy meats as well as fresh vegetables. There is a deli named D&M Deli that offers ingredients to make your own meals but also has a gourmet menu. They start serving food for breakfast and other meals throughout the day as well. It is considered a must visit place when people come to Maroochydore.
Where to stay
There are a lot of nice luxurious resorts that vary in accommodations. There are apartment like places with one to two bedrooms to stay in, resorts that are family friendly, also resorts that are more for the adults that are there for personal time. Another great attraction with lots of different restaurants and bars to choose from is the River walk. River walk is free and is on Saturday nights. People enjoy meals at restaurants on the river, drinks at their favorite bar and even live entertainment and as I mentioned before it’s free and everyone likes free. It is located at the Sunshine Plaza the lights from all the businesses are beautiful in the night time as well as the dry river and bridge.
Maroochydore is a beautiful place a destination unknown for many which make it such a hidden gem. It isn’t over populated and that makes it quaint and enjoyable without the hustle and bustle of a major city. With lots of outdoor activities, wonderful cuisine, as well as great weather you can enjoy a day at the beach followed by shopping and dinner at a nice restaurant relax and enjoy the scenery. Maroochydore is the key to a great vacation.
